30 January 2023 – I Finally Did It

Oops, really late tonight πŸ™ˆ. Luckily there were no birthdays today.

After last week’s malaise that stopped me from doing anything productive, I finally got a grip today and went to the launderette and tip. The launderette was more energy intensive than expected, so I probably wouldn’t do them both on the same day in future, and will no doubt be paying for it tomorrow as I’m already feeling the pain. Sadly, with my small car one trip to the tip wasn’t sufficient, but no idea when I can schedule another, as work begins again tomorrow (hurrah . . . not) – I really should go to bed (bad Tracy). I will also need to go to the launderette again to get my bedding and towels washed, but as I did so much today hopefully the smaller load will take less time.

I did try to listen to my audiobook while I was there, but the other patrons were chatty and it felt a bit rude to ignore them. Another woman, who arrived just after me, had walked a long way to be there – her washing machine broke last week, too. She also had 2 big bags of washing, and I felt bad that she was going to have to have the long walk back, so I gave her a lift. I guess it does do me good to get out and about occasionally and talk to people.

Anyway, I finished This Charming Man when I got home. This means I’ve already read a quarter of my Goodreads book total for the year, maybe I should increase it.

I’ve spent the last few hours watching a dodgy Japanese reverse harem romance, called 3B no Koibito (The 3Bs You Shouldn’t Date), about a naΓ―ve (aren’t they always) yet opinionated young woman living with the 3Bs (a bartender, a beautician and a band member), after being dumped by her previous boyfriend, who turned out to already be married with a child on the way – I have no idea how she never discovered this during the 2 years they were dating and only found out when she went to a dress fitting for their wedding and he finally told her.

While this drama was surprisingly rather tame for a Japanese manga adaptation, with pretty boys but not much sauce, it probably wouldn’t have sustained my interest if the episodes weren’t so short that I could fit the whole drama in over the space of one evening, and I couldn’t be bothered to move onto anything else.

All three men are typical, handsome but hopeless manga-type characters; all treating women like objects who are only there for their benefit, until the lead female berates them for their terrible treatment, makes them renounce their evil ways and fall for her instead. She tries to pretend she doesn’t know they like her and then meets an actor who looks exactly like the cheating bastard who dumped her before, so she inexplicably falls for him instead.

The 3Bs don’t take too kindly to the newcomer and try to stop her from seeing him. Which one of the four will she end up with, and do we really care when she’s such a wet weekend and all the men are self-centred idiots? (yep, this one’s not getting a high rating either – although on balance, I still enjoyed it more than that awful series I watched last week and it's not the worst Japanese series I've ever seen).
