25 January 2023 – Happy Birthday To Me!

And also to these fine men, who share my big day. I hope you’ve all had an amazing day, full of love, laughter and presents 🎉🎁🎂.

Junho (2 P.M.), Lucas (WayV, SuperM), Kangmin (Verivery)

My day was quiet, as pretty much expected given my age and that it isn’t a big birthday worth celebrating (3 more years before I’m officially really old – although seeing as K-Pop tweenies have been referring to Hui (Pentagon) as grandpa (he’s 29!) – they would probably consider me to be Methuselah).

Yesung, my bias from Super Junior, very kindly released his new album, Sensory Flows, today, to celebrate my birthday (I can dream, okay? 😂), and very good it is, too. Sadly, it wasn’t the rockfest I was hoping for; the teasers were all him with a band looking very rock star-like. The album does have the band, but is more along the lines of Suho’s solo albums.

I was hoping for something more like the Baekhyun and Seo Moon Tak collaboration Hurt because I’m pretty sure, that like Chen, who has already proved he has the perfect voice for a rock album (please give us this rather than a fourth ballad album 🙏), Yesung has the vocal agility to be able to pull off rock numbers with ease.

Anyway, here is the MV for the lead track, Small Things.

I spent the evening quietly, watching Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist, Missing: The Other Side 2 (only 2 episodes left . . . what will I do without it?) and, because it was good seeing Lee Jong Suk again, I watched his 2012 drama special, When I was the Prettiest. It’s not the sort of thing I would want to watch often – the subject matter is difficult in several ways, so I really need to be in the right mood – but tonight I was. I ended the evening with the 2022 film Decision to Leave, which I have been meaning to watch ever since I found a subbed copy, but somehow never quite got around to.

Better Late Than Never?
