What On Earth Is Going On?

No, I don't mean me posting 2 days in a row, although that is pretty darn unusual, I'll admit.

I'm talking about this:

Why have my weekly and even monthly stats been overtaken by some random band, who've even beaten WayV and EXO?

So, actually, there's a pretty good reason that my beautifully curated and 99.9% Asian lists have been invaded by a British interloper.

The Silent Archive are a band for whom my mate Simon (the male half of the Along For The Ride reaction channel among other things - you should check them out if you like K-pop, or even just like middle-aged bickering couples) is the (excellent) drummer.

Having recently taken part in Battle of the Bands, in which they have got to the final 🎉🎉🎉(happening on Thursday, 20 August at The Horn in St. Albans if you're in the area and fancy an evening out), they decided to release their first single, and I decided to give them a hand with streaming and play it a bit.

I seeded it into all the playlists I listened to for the Q2 report, and they're in my July playlists too, so while they've only got 2 tracks, they're slowly stacking up the listens and beating some of my favs as they go.

The thing I find most entertaining is that they haven't once appeared as my most obscure artist*, which means I can't be the only one following and playing them, although I am in the top 0.01% 😇.

Anyway, if you like a bit of alt-rock/post-hardcore drawing inspiration from the likes of Hell Is for Heroes, Hundred Reasons, and Reuben, then The Silent Archive just might be for you.

Their sound combines heavy, driving guitar riffs with soaring melodic hooks, creating a unique mix of intensity and atmosphere (according to their bio on Spotify).

You can check them out on Instagram too.

I wonder if they'll crack double figures in royalties (pence, not pounds obviously) by Christmas? Maybe by then there will be a full album, or even a Christmas cover (hint, hint) 😉🤣

*In case you're interested, that distinction for July goes to lil cold ice (go you!), who is a South Korean underground indie-hip hop artist.
