I am, of course, talking about Three-Body, the new Chinese sci-fi series, based on the book Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin (that I finished listening to about 8 hours ago).
I’ve watched the first 5 episodes and so far it’s a pretty
faithful representation of the book, the modern day part, anyway. I am glad I
read the story beforehand, as there are a few easter eggs that you would completely
miss if you haven’t read it, but I think it works well enough that you can
watch and keep up with it without knowing the story beforehand. Obviously, they’ve
kept the Cultural Revolution stuff to a minimum – for the moment, anyway – but
knowing how the censorship is in China, I don’t think it will cover it in much detail,
and certainly not the more brutal elements that open the story.
This is where the Netflix version might prove better,
as it doesn’t have to worry about censorship. I was reading an article earlier
and feel that it might actually turn out quite well, as Liu Cixin is involved
with the project, as are the team who made Game of Thrones. So while it
might move away from the original Chinese setting – or at least the central
characters are no longer all of Chinese origin, hopefully they won’t play
around with the story too much.
However, thanks to watching more episodes than intended, I
have once again missed the midnight deadline ππ.
I'm also catching up with a couple of episodes of Unchained Love. I’ll be honest, while I like Wang He Di and can watch him
in anything (yes, I did manage to watch all of Miss the Dragon –
although mainly for the second couple’s story rather than the main couple), I
am finding the story a bit slow going and haven’t missed watching it at all.
Tonight’s episodes are really to decide whether I want to continue with it, or
whether to drop it and move onto something else instead.
Earlier, I managed to complete the list of albums I still need to listen to for my K-pop end-of-year list. There are 116, and I have created playlists, so I shall plough through them a little each day. Today, I listened to ATBO, BAE173, Blank2y, Blitzers, Cravity, DKB, Epex and Mirae.
