I’m almost back to normal! Well, as normal as I ever get, which probably isn’t that normal compared to other people. However, the headache has finally receded and almost all the peripheral problems are gone – except hypersensitivity to smell, which always takes longer to go than anything else. I just hope the weather stays grey and wet for a few more days so I can recover completely – bright sunshine (or bright cloud) at this stage would be the worst thing, as it might well trigger another migraine.
Today has been filled with lots of spreadsheets and lots of
music. As I was working on statistics and needed to concentrate, it was clearly
the perfect time to start the final assault on my 2022 K-pop end-of-year lists (you
can see my endlessly multi-tasking brain is back to normal).
First thing this morning, while I listened to the first episode of Undertow: Dark Tome – the third series of the interconnected horror podcast from Realm – I created a playlist with 36 of the albums/mini albums I listened to (and liked enough to keep in my library) last year and worked my way through 23 of them, ranking them by type, A-side and B-side. This didn’t include any of my most listened-to albums, so they will be added at the end once I finally get through the 300-odd other artists I listened to last year (that’s just on Spotify – I also listened to Apple and watched/listened on Youtube, too but I’m ignoring them).
Today’s bands were (in no particular order): Treasure,
iKON, Tomorrow x Together, Astro, Oneus, Omega X, Lee Minhyuk (Huta from BtoB),
Ateez, CIX, Xdinary Heroes, FTIsland, Wonho, AB6IX, ONF, Tan, Ghost9, Epex, E’last
and Just B.
As I clearly hadn’t heard enough music for one day, I also
watched a video compiling the best K-pop MVs of 2022 to see a) whether they
matched my list (they got about half of them); and, b) to see if I had missed anything obvious from my list
(I hadn’t) and then, just because, the entire EXO-M* MV playlist (I was in the mood for the Chinese versions rather than Korean, as they don't get anywhere near enough love).
*For those who don't know, EXO was originally made up of 2 x 6 member units: the aforementioned EXO-M, who sang in Mandarin and mainly promoted in China (Kris, Xiumin, Luhan, Lay, Chen and Tao) and EXO-K, who sang in Korean and mainly promoted in Korea (Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai and Sehun). After Kris, Luhan and Tao left the band (2014-15) they merged to become 1 x 9 member group without the country tag. Until 2018 (Love Shot), all their MVs were made in both Korean and Mandarin and with the earliest ones (particularly Mama, where their concept and superpowers are introduced) you need to watch both MVs to get the full story.
Finally, having had my fill of music, I decided to rewatch
an old black and white MR James ghost story from 1968 by the BBC,
called Whistle and I’ll Come to You.
Before I turn in, I shall probably watch a couple of episodes
of a new modern Chinese drama I’ve just started, called The Silence of the Monster.
I forgot to mention in yesterday's round-up, that I finished She and Her Perfect Husband, which had a satisfying conclusion – hence the
reason for starting the new drama.
Today's Failures
Shopping. I meant to get groceries, but for one reason or
another failed to do it. I’m good for a couple of days but definitely need to
get food (and especially milk, or no tea π₯) before the weekend.
Getting this blog posted before midnight. Honestly, you’d
have thought it would be easy, wouldn’t you? But somehow, regardless of what
time I start writing, getting it done the same day just seems to elude me.
Maybe tomorrow will be the day . . . maybe.
