To be honest, it’s been an extremely long time since I got really properly angry. I mean, I am generally a grumpy bitch, so probably every day something will piss me off. But as I’m sitting at home, alone, not having to interact face-to-face with other humans, who will and do invariably piss me off even more, I can just let off steam by screaming out a long string of the worst swear words imaginable at whatever’s annoyed me, or at the PC, and it won’t affect anyone, as no one but me (and possibly my neighbours if they’re in the garden when it’s summer and I have the windows open) will hear it.
But today, something happened at work (I don’t want to talk
about the specifics, sorry), that made me absolutely boil with anger. I felt such
hot rage that I reckon I could have easily powered a hot air balloon with just
one scream. Eventually, I did get most of it out of my system by ranting to Quincy
(in message format so she can easily ignore it), but there is still a core of
seething fury deep inside that I can’t quite manage to quell, even
several hours later, and it’s stopping me from doing anything useful. I have a
horrible suspicion that it might stop me from sleeping later too, so I am
listening to Key’s Gasoline to try to calm me down
as I write this. I honestly think Another Life might be one of
the most perfect pop songs ever written. It’s a big claim, I know, but
honestly, go give it (and the whole album come to that) a listen and you’ll see
I’m right.
Fortunately, I don’t have to work tomorrow so I can have a
lie in if I need it and put some separation between me and the area that has
caused me such annoyance, as I sensibly took the day off to prepare for the CIX
concert in the evening – it’s finally here!
Yes, it really will take me all day to prepare myself for
going out, particularly as it will be the first time I’ve left the flat since
before Christmas – yep, that first day comment about me going outside more is
definitely not going well π – and no, I haven’t yet booked a slot at the
tip, but I really need to. I will be extremely anxious from the moment I get up
tomorrow right up until I meet up with Quincy, and probably after that too, but
I'm determined to get out there and have a good time.

| Complete in X (CIX) — I will be seeing you |
I was so busy today that I decided to forget all about my K-pop
list. In fact, I spent all morning in complete silence π±,
until I finally found time for a cup of tea (Adagio’s Fujian
Baroque – it’s very good, too), and realised that there was no music. I carried
on with the foreign albums because most of them are just Japanese versions of
already released Korean songs, and my language preference goes Korean/Chinese
(interchangeable depending on mood), then Japanese, so while I enjoy listening
to the songs, none of the albums are going to make my overall top 20, so I didn’t
have to focus on them too hard to choose favourite tracks and stuff.
π OMG, I clearly just lied, because even as I
was typing that sentence, Key finished and TVXQ’s almost
as excellent Epitaph album started (and that’s Japanese π)
– you should listen to that too, no, really you should. Also, Onew
released 2 Japanese albums this year (Who Sings? Vol 1 and Life Goes On) that are also probably in my top 20 too, so I really was lying
π€¦♀️. Having said that,
all 3 contain original songs that weren’t released in Korean first, so my
point still sort of stands.
At this point, writing ceased so I could dish up and eat my
dinner (bacon wrapped chicken and cheese, jacket potato and mixed veg with a
pint of Waterdrop Vibe-infused water), while I listened to
the also very excellent Devil by Max Changmin (one half
of TVXQ!), Pentagon’s In:Vite U, Lay’s
West and FTIsland’s Door (which is also
Japanese π) – seriously, I’m giving away all my top 10
list here π.
Anyway, today’s bands/artists were SF9, CIX,
Tomorrow X Together, Verivery, iKON, Wonho, Luhan,
Z.Tao, Ateez, OnlyOneOf, Pentagon, Treasure and Forestella.
π¨Tangent alertπ¨
Back in the mists of time (2009), SHINee
released a cracking song called Stand By Me, that was on the OST album for the extremely problematic popular K-drama Boys Over Flowers. There are a lot of versions of this drama, as it’s originally
based on a Japanese manga, and then a 2005 film and TV series called Hana Yori Dango. All of them are problematic, even the recent (2021) Thai version. My personal
favourite – and I’ve seen them all – is the Taiwanese version from 2018 called Meteor Garden, starring cute newbie actors, who have gone on to become
some of the most popular idol actors in China.
Anyway, back to the music, which is the important bit. Arguably,
this song was one of the best things about the drama – apart from possibly Lee Min Ho’s terrible perm and fashion style, and the fact that it gave us the
cutie, Kim Bum (never getting over Lee Rang, not ever π).

The reason for mentioning this is because Forestella,
who are well known as a quartet who do the sort of vocal gymnastics more associated
with Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody (which they obviously
covered) released a straight, non-operatic cover of the song last year, and it’s
rather nice.
I need to stop now as I’m heading off on tangents and I really
need to get this posted. Plus I also heard EXO's Universe and burst into tears π. This was immediately followed by SuperM's Better Days, Baekhyun's Cry For Love, EXO's Lights Out and now Park Hyo Shin's super weepy, Goodbye - so even Spotify is telling me it's time to stop.
Before I go, I need to say π Happy Birthday π to Hanbin from Tempest
(a band who debuted in 2022 and have appeared in my listening lists several times
because they’re fab).
It’s also my favourite Chinese actor, Zhang Bin Bin (Vin Zhang)’s birthday. Here he is looking lovely. To celebrate I'm going to go and watch him in Song of the Moon.
